Four Symbian^3 devices were presented at Nokia World 2010.
We know almost everything about the N8 & its legendary camera, its Xenon flash, its large 12MP sensor... bigger than most cheap compact cameras.
The Nokia C6-01 is a completely different smartphone from the recently released Qwerty C6. Actually, it's like a cheaper N8 aimed at the mid-end smartphone market.
In comparison to the N8, it loses the aluminium for recycled metal, the 12MP camera has been replaced by an 8MP (no auto-focus but EDOF) with dual-led flash, the screen size is 3.2" & has no flash memory (relies on MicroSD) but more internal memory (350MB).
More importantly, it has a removable 1050mAh battery.
The C7 is a step-up from the C6-01 with a bigger 3.5" screen, a stainless steel body, 8GB flash memory, FM transmitter, active noise cancellation during calls & 1200mAh battery.
At 10.5mm, it's one of Nokia's thinnest device & probably the best all-rounder for the mid-end.
& now to the most interesting unveiling of the day... The E7 features the same aluminium body as the N8 & has almost the same exact specs except for...
- 8MP dual-led full-focus camera,
- 4" nHD screen & ...
- a Qwerty keyboard!
The full awesomeness of the N97's sturdy keyboard mechanism on Symbian^3.
As Nokia have pointed out, the E7 is the ultimate business smartphone. & rightly so, Engadget have raving hands-on reviews.
One more thing
Nokia have introduced Clear Black Display technology on their AMOLED screens, which promises greater contrasts & better outdoor performance. Given that Samsung is the sole producer of AMOLEDs, this may well be a version of Samsung's Super AMOLED...
So do Nokia have best-sellers in their hands?
Not exactly... Well, you see, the C6-01 & E7 have CBD, while the C7 & N8 don’t. For the N8, a better outdoor screen mattered most because of its camera. :(
Moving on to the E7, it has a 4" screen with a resolution of only 640x360. That's 184 ppi. Even from the photos, it's obvious that everything appears blown up!
Another drawback is that it has no MicroSD slot (16GB should be barely enough).
The C6, C7 & E7 all have full-focus cameras. While it's understandable for the C-series, I expected at least an auto-focus camera with the E7 (even a 5MP one would do).
The C6, C7 & E7 all have 1GB of NAND (internal memory), which translates to around 350MB free. The N8? 512MB of NAND with only 135MB free… figure out which is the flagship. :|
Honestly, I can’t wait for the MeeGo-powered N9, coz they can’t possibly mess up the specs with that…
