RIM confirms's Playbook the first tablet PC that receives FIPS 140-2 certification.


"This certification allows u.s. Federal Government for the purchase with clear guidelines that's Playbook was eligible U.S. computing policies for the protection of sensitive information," says Scott Totzke, Vice President, security chief in the RIM BlackBerry.

RIM'S stock jumped nearly 5 percent, or $ 27.95 on Thursday.


RIM stock fell more than half its value since the beginning of this year, caused the disappointing revenues RIM launch's PlayBook, lackluster and concerns with the inability to compete with the Apple iPhone and iPad and devices using Google's Android software.


Standard Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS 140-2) used for the evaluation of the safety of mobile devices, servers, routers and firewalls, for use by federal agencies like the Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI).


Apple has received certification for both the iPhone and iPad.


Last week, RIM accepts the same certification for smart card readers that lock the BlackBerry smart phone at a time when the two are not close quarters, as reported by Reuters.
