2009 - What's next?

2009

2008 was a pretty crazy year for the tech world - think how it was the least affected by the Credit Crunch! The iPhone 3G did record sales. Netbooks stunned everyone by their popularity. & The Dark Knight broke every movie record. So let's take a look at what 2009 has in store for us...

Windows 7

Windows7logo

This will be THE big launch of 2009. If you believe the hype of the early reviews & benchmark - it's gonna be the best Windows OS. It's very fast, good-looking & user-friendly. & it'll be released in 6-8 months - I'm pretty sure about that.
I'm currently testing the leaked Windows 7 Beta 1 Build 6.1.7000. I'll post the review in a few days.

iPhone Nano & iTablet

iPhone Nano

The iPhone Nano has already been unofficially confirmed by the official case manufacturers. A "cheaper" version of the iPhone? That sounds like a contradiction - Apple doesn't know the word cheap. Let's see what they come up with...

There's also rumours of the iTablet - a bigger iPod Touch-like internet tablet (like the Nokia N810) running on mobile OSX. I doubt it would be possible since it would require huge battery life.
Update: Macworld 2009 has come & gone & no gadget except for a very cheap MBP – 17” Led screen, 2.93GHz C2D with 6MB L2, 8GB DDR3 1066Mhz, 320GB HD,  9400M integrated & 9400M discrete 512MB GDDR3 – all on 8h battery using a new modular non-removable new Li-polymer battery. & you need to pay $50 for anti-glare screen! WTF?

The N97, N98 & N99...

Nokia_N97_white_05a_lowres

Sure we all know what a powerhouse the N97 is. But that's not the end of it - according to the leaked Nokia roadmap, there's a 3-inch touchscreen device codenamed Corolla with an 8MP (most likely N8x) & another 3.5-inch touchscreen codenamed Eitri. Check the roadmap, the N97 is Ivalo.

Touch Netbooks

Asus T91

The netbook revolution had already begun last year. The next step is touchscreen netbooks, starting with the Asus Eee PC T91 unveiled at CES... powered by Windows 7.
The current beta builds of Windows 7 are the desktop versions - but all the new additions reveal it's geared towards touch interaction - bigger taskbar, Aero peek, Aero Shake... I bet Microsoft have a netbook-optimized version of 7 under wraps.

Windows Mobile 7

This is announced as a revamping of the WinMo UI - it's a powerful OS, it has some damn good apps but is a terrible media player. Microsoft is also looking into that with a possible Zune integration. WinMo 7 will add multi-touch support with gestures & accelerometer features such as shaking & rotation.

Office 14

Office14

There currently very little info on the Internet on Office 14 – the only thing we’re certain of is that it’s codenamed Office 14 because 13 is an unlucky number. UX Evangelist is convinced that the Office 14 may be RTMed at the end of this year. It’s probable that they’ll add a classic toolbar option for companies who were complaining that the Ribbon decreased their productivity…

Total Solar Eclipse
Yep, a full 6-min total solar eclipse on the 22nd of July only visible in… Asia. No Mauritius. :(

Since a few years, there has been a viral outbreak of franchise revivals, sequels & comicbook adaptations. & 2009 will be no different. Don't forget you can grab all these trailers on images.apple.com.
I wonder how kind of movie HP6 will turn out to be, given that the book had a very dark tone. Watchmen seems to be a pretty good blockbuster, except Fox & WB are fighting over the movie rights.
But there are only two movies I'm eagerly awaiting more than anything else - & they both contain robots.

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen

A sequel to the best film of 2007. Bigger & better & twice more Transformer action! I'm looking forward to how they explain the existence of... a female Transformer!!!
The teaser trailer will be revealed during the Superbowl final - on 1st Feb. For now, just check the only set images that have been revealed…

Terminator Salvation

terminatorew1

WB have given a Batman-treatment to the Terminator franchise. Forget androids like Arnold, the "new" robots are crude killing machines - no fancy stuff. & guess who's John Connors? It's Christian Bale. Check the two trailers on Apple.

Blogging resolutions
I won't embark on an ambitious project or whatsoever. What’s the use of assigning myself resolutions that won’t be fulfilled or that will use up all my time trying to achieve them.
I'm not a guy with a plan. I just do things... ;)
